Freezer repair before the stock thaws
Freezers often sit where conditions are worst: garages, store rooms and back-of-shop areas that reach 40 °C in summer. In that heat the compressor and condenser fan run almost without a break, and small faults quickly turn into thawed food.

If your freezer has failed with food inside, keep the lid shut. A full freezer generally keeps food frozen for about two days if it isn't opened, and a half-full one for about a day.

Clicks but won't start
The compressor start relay, overload protector or capacitor has failed, or the compressor itself is seized.
Water on the floor
A blocked drain plug, melted frost escaping, or condensation from a lid that doesn't close fully.
Trips the power
A shorted compressor, a damaged power cable or moisture in the wiring. Switch it off and call us.
Lid or door won't seal
A torn gasket, bent hinge or warped lid. We replace gaskets and adjust hinges.
Noisy compressor or fan
Worn fan bearings, loose mounts or a compressor near the end of its life.

Freezer care tips
- Defrost manual freezers when ice on the walls gets thicker than about half a centimetre.
- Keep freezers out of direct sun and leave space around them for airflow.
- A reasonably full freezer holds its temperature better than an empty one.
- Check the lid gasket for tears, and keep it clean so it seals.
- Brush dust off the condenser regularly, especially in garages and store rooms.
Freezer Repair FAQs
How long does food last in a freezer that has stopped?
If the lid stays shut, a full freezer usually keeps food frozen for around two days and a half-full one for around a day. Food that still has ice crystals can normally be refrozen.
Is it worth repairing an old chest freezer?
Often yes. Chest freezers are simple machines, and a start relay, thermostat or gasket costs far less than a new freezer. If the compressor has failed on an old unit, we'll compare repair and replacement costs for you.
Do you repair commercial deep freezers in shops?
Yes. We repair grocery, restaurant and ice cream freezers, and can arrange visits outside trading hours on request.
Why does my freezer keep frosting up?
Usually humid air is getting in through a worn gasket or a lid left slightly open, or a frost-free model has a defrost fault. We'll find which.
